![]() ![]() I won’t go too much into the twists and turns to avoid spoiling anything, but I will say this book reminded me a little of the Akutagawa film Rashomon (or the Akutagawa Ryunosuke story ‘In a Grove’ on which Rashomon was based) in the way each character’s confession provides more information and a slightly different perspective on events. The story starts with the teacher’s speech to the class on their final day of the school year, in which she confronts them with a shocking revelation. The first confession is that of teacher Yuko Moriguchi, whose four-year-old daughter Manami has been found dead in the school swimming pool. This is a story of revenge, told through the “confessions” of various characters, each of whom gets their own chapter in which they speak directly to the camera. But in terms of the subject matter - nope, maybe not such an easy read after all. It hasn’t been that long since my last post, as this book was easy to read, language-wise, compared to some of the others I’ve tried. ![]()
